Elaine McFadden talked about resources available to Los Angeles Unified School District parents who have a group wishing to learn about nutrition. They can sign up for free dietitian taught nutrition classes that can be conducted at their church, club, or other organization. Parents can get involved and find information and resources at the LAUSD "Parent Portal." LAUSD head chef Mark Baida joined us to share what it is like getting parent reactions to his years of work developing new healthy menu options at taste testing he is conducting at schools throughout the district. Two LAUSD parents that attended the tastings, Carmen Acosta and Linda Torres, gave their review of the meals. Jennifer Reilly, from the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine, explained what how they choose the Golden Carrot Award winner and why this year Dennis Barratt and David Binkle who are the Director and Deputy Director of the LAUSD food program were chosen Katalin Coburn, VP from Sunland Peanut Butter addressed the newest peanut butter recall and how their peanuts and processing protocols are different that other peanut butter sources that have been through recalls.
