#10:  Replace one meat meal with a non meat meal at least one time per week.

➡ Try and find one day per week where you can exclude animal products (vegan) or limit animal products to dairy and eggs (vegetarian) and you may find there is a whole world of goodness out there you didn't even know about.  Vegetarian/vegan food is not what you might think.  Vegan chefs have become experts in recreating vegan versions of your favorites that are so good you will be convinced you are eating the originals, but actually contain NO animal products.

➡ Those that eat more plant based foods live longer and are at reduced risk for chronic disease.  Heart disease risk, the #1 killer, can be reduced and even reversed with a plant based diet and healthier lifestyle.  Other diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cancer can also be reduced with more plant based foods added to your meals.  You may think those extra years added to your life are not important now, but later when you have a chance to enjoy your children and grandchildren, you may realize that giving up something that probably won't surprise you, for a meal that wows you with a new flavor experience might not be such a bad trade off.Utilize resources such as the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicines just released 21 Day Vegan Kickstart.  http://pcrm.org/kickstarthome/

➡ Use your “dining out night” as your non meat day and let the professionals prepare a great tasting vegan meal for you such as those at the Veggie Grill Restaurant.  Don't put to much pressure on yourself in the beginning if you are new to preparing vegan meals.  Instead find a great restaurant that specializes in these types of foods, and let them do the cooking.  That way you can start to find out what you like, and then you can learn to prepare those meals at home.


Great places to start:  Vegetarian Times, The Vegan Society, No Meat Athlete, and Vegetarian Resource Group.

The USDA says eat half the plate fruits and vegetables. Think the USDA should listen to itself because that's not reflective of how they spend billions of taxpayer dollars!

The price of organic fruits and vegetables are so much higher than junk food because the government gives 97% of the farm bill's billions of taxpayer dollars to meat, dairy, the GMO grains to feed meat and dairy, and then a small chunk to the production of additional GMO products of sugar, starch, oil, and alcohol.  Only less than one percent of those billions go to fruit and vegetable farmers who grow the foods that protect us from chronic disease.  To increase our chances of chronic disease prevention, the USDA says half our plate should be fruits and vegetables.  That will change as soon as more GMO fruits and vegetables are approved.
